Butterflies

Chase loves insects and spring is the perfect time to learn about bugs so we decided to raise some butterflies in our home. I will probably post about this again when we have butterflies to show everyone but I thought there might be some other moms out there that would want to try this.
You don't have to touch them at all. They caterpillars stay in the jar until they turn into chrysalises then you just attach the lid to the net cage and wait. When they do hatch you place fresh cut flowers in the bottom and sprinkle sugar water for the butterflies to drink. Then when they are ready to fly you set them free! When I taught preschool we raised butterflies every year! The kids loved it and we had great success! (We only had one bad year and that involved ants! Oh, our poor butterflies!)
I promise it is super easy. If you click on the link below it will take you to the website where I ordered the butterflies. They also have ants and other bugs! I will post more pictures in a few weeks, that's about how long it takes for them to change into beautiful butterflies!

That's so cool. Calebs 1st grade class is doing this right now but all he wants to tell me about it is how one boys snuck his caterpillar outside and then it got accidentally stepped on :) Such a boy!

That's to funny! I've told Chase he has to look with his "science eyes" and can't touch them! :)

Parker and Grant did this two years ago. All their butterflies lived and thrived. The kids got sad, though when it was time to set them free.
