On our short trip to California we also stopped by the Prentice Park Zoo in Santa Ana. It's a very small local zoo but it's easier to go there than to drive all the way to San Diego. It's tons of fun! They have a train, carousel and enough animals for a four year old! Our favorite was the monkeys.
